Making coloured lipgloss

3 Nov

If you have a broken eyeshadow or blusher palette, fret not! You can re-use the colours by making lipgloss and I will show you how.

I have been clumsy enough to spoil a couple of blushers a few time in my life. And I used to throw them away because my blusher brush will not be able to pick up the blush nicely.

The last thing I want is a clutter of blush on my cheeks. I need to meet people and look good, not resemble monkey’s backside.

Now, I allow myself to recycle them by turning them into other useful things.

Here, I have a tube of clear coloured Chanel lipgloss.

Only  mom would buy lipgloss from Chanel.

I have no idea why would mom buy a clear gloss from Chanel. I can make do with my Etude House lipgloss.

If I were her, I would have gotten the gloss in a sweet velvet red. For a clear coloured gloss, isn’t it a tad too pricey? I could have worn clear gloss from E.L.F and nobody would know the difference!

Ok, so I digress.

Next step after getting your gloss ready is to get your little container ready. The container will store your newly made gloss.

Glitter, pink, and a cute spatula!

I bought this from Daiso for the purpose of this entry. Now that I have it, it can be pretty useful for storing my moisturizer whenever I travel overseas.

After getting the container ready, I put some clear gloss into the container.

Used the mini spatula to scoop a little of my pink blusher

Less is more

Then, I cleaned the spatula and used it to scoop a lil red eyeshadow.

Still unsure of the colour combination

Mix till colour is even

Ready for usage!

Wasn’t that simple?

I know the pink is not exactly wearable for an everyday look. But you get the drift of how to make something good.

Don’t worry about the bizarre combination, because lipsticks and lipgloss are made from pigment. And if you’re using the blusher or eyeshadow from a reliable brand like Shiseido or Stila, it will work.

Have fun trying!

Sexy Motherpucker

22 Oct

Want sexy lips like Angelina Jolie?

Look no further.

If you haven’t heard, there’s this lip plumping gloss called “Sexy Motherpucker”. And yours truly has tried, tested and seen the amazing effects of this plumping gloss.

You can get it from Sephora at $19.

Comes in many colours too.

On the Kits cosmetics website, it states - ”Extreme formula lip plumping gloss, with scientifically-proven plumping microspheres that explode in volume up to 10x when they come in contact with water. Also formulated with a rare circulation enhancing ingredient that gives your lips a little ‘electric’ buzz, to move more blood around the area, creating the swelling effect.”

Well, that is absolutely true!

Let me share my little experiment with you:

This is my little tube of plumping gloss, but I can’t figure out whether it is in Yummy Plum or Clear Apricot. The box is long gone by now.

The colour of the tube looks a little darker than the colour of the gloss inside the tube, but I like it my lips a lil pinkish. And this colour is quite perfect for me.

The gloss smells of chocolate. Weird how I found out. Guess I must have subconsciously smell all my makeup before using them.

Digressing, I really don’t like the smell of Chanel’s rouge. And I had to resist licking the lips because it smells really tasty!

The texture of this product is extremely sticky, a bit like honey. If you have long hair, be prepared to have hair stuck all over your lips!

But because of the thick formula, it was quite hard for the gloss to be dragged over across the lips.

My lips after 15 minutes.

It’s quite thick right? And I have full lips to begin with.

A minute after application, my lips started buzzing, vibrating, tingling and fizzing as the particles of the plumping gloss expanded.  It continued for another 5 minutes before my lips started looking swollen.

There’s no discomfort like extreme heat or pain, just lots of vibration on the lips. I was so shocked intially I even asked my sis if she felt the same.

I think this is a really great product because of how it makes my lips pucker. Also, the gloss will not come off on its own and the staying power is amazing.

I love how the colour made my lips a little more pink than before and the tingling sensation is quite fun!

In conclusion, I am glad that I have tried this gloss and I can’t wait to try out more Soap & Glory products!

Red Rouge FTW

30 Sep

Red rouge is definitely my favourite makeup because it never fails to make a statement.

However, it is not easy to carry off the red rouge look and if applied wrongly, we could be a laughing stock once we step out of the house.

I totally dig this Jessica Alba look, and I currently wear this look (bangs and red lips) out everyday ..though I don’t look anything close to Jessica Alba.

For those of you who haven’t purchased any red lipsticks before, or are less adventurous, you might want to try buying bright red lipgloss instead of red lipstick.

The reason why you should buy red lipgloss instead of lipstick is because you would be able to control how red you would like your lips to be. The bright red gloss could give you a whole range of colours ranging from sheer pink, light pink, light red to bright red, depending on how much you use. The best part? It would be suitable for school, meeting clients, shopping with the girlfriends and partying.

Isn’t it wonderful to have one single piece of makeup that is multi-functional?

If you’re still having doubts about carrying off the look, I believe it all boils down to how much confidence you have, and keeping it simple. As red lips itself makes a statement, the rest of the makeup on your face has to be toned down.

But don’t get me wrong. I’m definitely not asking you to go shopping or meet your client with nothing but red lips. It would be super, duper unsightly to see bright red lips with dark eye rings, open pores, blemishes and droopy eyes. So, if you don’t want to look like you’ve arrived from Mainland China (1945) through a time machine, go grab some concealer.

In my next entry on Lip Colour, I will touch on what kind of red would be suitable for your skin tone. Stay tuned!

Skin tone and red lips

13 Sep

As promised in the previous entry, I am here to share what kind of red lip colour would be perfect for your skin tone.

Many females in Singapore tend to shy away from red lip colour because it stands out and they are afraid of wearing it wrongly. With this entry as a guide, you can too try wearing red lips because it is not a temporary fashion trend but a classic.

Red lips will always be in style and the correct lip colour will make your skin radiant. And with so many shades of red to choose from at makeup counters, it will not be difficult to find the right shade of red for yourself.

Also, don’t be shy to ask the experts at makeup counters within departmental stores which shade is the right one for you. But do your homework before testing the colours out at the counters. You wouldn’t want to be seen hopping from Chanel, to Estee Lauder, Ettusais, Anna Sui, Benefit, Lancome because counter girls here gossip a lot.

For most Asian girls like myself, it might be a little harder to tell if your skin tone is cool, warm, or neutral.

The general assumption is that fair, white English girls are cool, and tanned, bronzed beach American babes are warm. People with a yellow undertone would be classified as “warm”. But is it, really?

Different types of skin colour.

In Singapore, the majority of the population is made up of Chinese, Malays and Indians. And 95% of us Asians have yellow skin, or a yellow undertone. By general assumption, our skin tone is warm. If you should think so, that is wrong! We might be yellow on the surface, but our skin tone can be neutral, or even cool.

How do you tell what is your skin tone then?

There are many methods to find out what your skin tone is. I will discuss two methods here.

#1. The Gold and Silver watch test

Wear a gold watch on your left wrist, and a silver watch on your right wrist. If you look better in silver, you’re cool. If you look better in gold, you’re warm. Remember, this is not a matter of taste and personality, but to identify your natural skin tone.

#2. The wrist test

Go outdoors and get natural light, then look at the veins on your wrists. If you see a yellow-orange cast, you’re warm. If you see blue undertones, you’re cool. If you have a peach or olive undertone, you’re neutral.

In general, warm tones goes very well with beige BB cream, foundations and concealers, whereas cool tones goes very well with ivory-based ones.

Lip colour

We all know that warm red goes with warm skin tones, and cool red goes with cool skin tones. But what exactly is the right colour for us?

Look at lipsticks a little closely to find that every shade of red has an underlying pigment tone, and this will determine your look. Be very careful with this, wearing the wrong colour will make you avoid red lips for the rest of your life.

If you’re warm with a golden or bronze tan, your lip colour should be in orange-red shades. Examples of orangey-reds are brick red, orange, dark red, burgundy.

If you’re cool with fair and rosy skin, your lip colour should have a blue undertone. That means you may experiment with hot red, or any red with pinkish hues.

These are general guidelines to help us find the right shade of red by cutting our options by half, but we still have to take our time and select the right shade of red from the other half. Finding the correct colour requires time and effort. It is all about experimenting and trying on different shades to eventually find the perfect red rouge for yourself.

Good luck!
